The Promised Land?

Piper Haqim Banger! Untrue was kinda mixed for me after the blistering blast fest that was Exile but man this time around Black Sites are not kidding and man do they kick some arse. Banger! Favorite track: Many Turn To None.

progdolphin Always a gifted songwriter, Mark Sugar and his Black Sites project continue to settle into an emotional layer in retro-reaching, modern pushing lane that’s as accessible as its musical backbone. The Promised Land? begs repetition and gives plenty in return. As an experience stuffed to the brim with riffs, TPL bows with the grace of good ol' fashioned songwriting, not progressive in the virtuosic showboat sense, but through curated layers of influence. Favorite track: Many Turn To None.

Iantastic Have loved Black sites since I heard 'Exile' in 2019,
Made me check out their first record 'in Monochrome' also excellent as is 2021's 'Untrue'.
All three are permanently on regular rotation on my playlists, very much looking forward to this new one.
Hopefully they can come play the UK sometime

1.
Descent 05:52
cometh now the punishment
for sins of yesterday vacant eyes of those who lie how many times betrayed? kneel down, protector can you keep us safe from harm embrace me as i fall into your ice cold arms stone hands of justice gather dust these pillars wither at his touch eating out of leprous hands plagues come not from god but man for centuries we’ve gone without for traitors only one way out away awaiting your descent
2.
more than a word, hardly a threat don’t say something you might regret ‘cause you know you can’t go home again no one to blame, we couldn’t have known but this should have happened long ago before the tears came down like rain faith is dying, all we’ve known is washed away worlds dividing, i know i can’t stay this is a war that never ends building a wall from the bones of the dead is this tomorrow that we dread? need to escape, it’s coming undone there’s no place left for us to run we’ve spread our sickness everywhere
3.
Gideon 05:35
unseen cruelty in our veins feel the stares of those betrayed instincts no one can deny to wound another satisfies this disease awakens as the day begins can you feel it rising from within? waiting for the light one more day without the sun in this endless night live to curse the name gideon lie awake in unmade bed
(violence bred into our bones)
scattered thoughts in dreaming heads
(is that all we’ve ever known?) this disease awakens as the day begins
can you feel it rising from within? it’s calling – it calls out
 in this abyss we find
 no one is purified
 now innocence has been denied
4.
do you hear the laughter, echoing insane
as we feed the beast with madness in its veins
all hail the chosen one, the wrath undone, the purifier
we do just as we’re told, the chilling cold of a world on fire can you see the future, lit by only flame
get the torches out, to protect the holy name
i stay away from you, attending to what i require
survival is not greed, take what i need from this world on fire the sun sets on a thousand dead tonight
without a hope or a prayer to make it right
the dream is now deceased, as we turn out the light
we hunger, we’re starving, generations that will never rise again do you hear them laughing now? their end will now begin, can’t help but grin, as they expire
they followed as they must, they put their trust in a world on fire and in the blackest night
 the last remaining light
 is a world on fire
5.
day of judgment, upon your throne
 fate decided by you alone
beg for mercy you’ve never shown it’s not over - one more, one more chasing eternity
 fear of mortality
this life wasn’t meant to be
going on for so long synthesizing virility
 medicated monstrosity
 last appeal to your deity
now it’s over - no more, no more if you could do it all again
then you would do it all again
a space where the end should be chasing eternity
 prolonging misery
this life wasn’t meant to be
going on for so long
6.
hide somewhere, take shelter get out while you can, they said enslavement? extinction? purify by the blade instead fight fire, with fire empty promises deafening let actions speak volume let the silence be deafening so we wait, and we play our hand and our fate, is at our command somewhere out there, in the stone and sand our destiny, is the promised land falling right before your eyes a law that we don’t recognize our violence always justified the testament laid bare young ones led by dying men the day will surely come but when? when tragedy strikes again and again you’ll know that we’ve been there a better place for peace and to prepare for war another chase the pacifist denied this bitter race they lie and lie directly to the mirror’s face until the day they die who will save your children from the wicked hand? who could stand to gain from lies of a promised land? and no one cares bring your gold and silver to be buried there with conscience cast aside the choice is made a violent revenge calls from beyond the grave primeval ways revived who would slaughter children by the righteous hand? who could stand to gain from all these lies of a promised land? these severed limbs will build my throne saviors have scattered, you’re alone and as the war drums quicken, this only ends one way as it was written on the stone can it be, we’re all the same? none redeemed and none forgiven? persecution twists the mind and should we meet again i’ll be the one who holds the chains what did it mean? all in the name of one unseen things nobody truly knows lasting shame watch as the higher ground they claim simply crumbles from below living lies of a promised land open eyed where do we go when war subsides? does it matter anymore? the story unfolds now we play a different role we’re the wolf outside your door living lies of a promised land
7.
always surrounded the illusion of control as the healing hand becomes a stranglehold this burden, mine alone two hands to move the stone and if the earth stood still would my world become undone? what will become of me when the many turn to none? in isolation no despair for those long gone with determination, i carry on this life that i create two hands to change my fate no others anymore as i watch the fading sun i’ll still be standing here when the many turn to none with the many gone, just one
